Cutting and Altering Wood Sign with Vinyl

My Daughter had a birthday party yesterday and I knew the birthday girl was artsy like us and I thought it would be nice to give her something that she could use for art and something personalized using vinyl.

This was such an easy project, I just typed in the name in the studio (I used the Wizards Magic font) and cut it after measuring the chalkboard sign I found at Hobby Lobby.

Here is my blank sign:

I think I have mentioned it before that I like to draw a line around my vinyl design to make weeding easy, look at this picture:

My settings once again, are on Silhouette Vinyl, blade 1 BUT,  my blade was actually on 3!! I sent a test cut first (as usual) and it was perfect so I sent the cut straight to the vinyl on top of my mat, I don't like to cut without my mat unless I really, really, like really have to because I am afraid I will waste a whole sheet of vinyl again, so better safe than sorry right?

Once you draw your lines and cut the vinyl, weeding will be a breeze, lift the big piece around the letters first (picture 1), then using a tooth pick (I found it at Wal-Mart) poke and lift the tiny pieces of vinyl in and around the letters (picture 2). After the weeding is done, apply some transfer paper, lift the letters (picture 3) and then transfer them to your sign (picture 4). So easy!
This is how it looked after I applied the vinyl on the wooden sign and also, I signed the back since it said Hobby Lobby on one corner and I wanted to make sure they didn't think I bought it at the store lol
And of course, I had to make a card to go with the gift but since I was in a hurry, I bought a card set in the studio store, it is from Lori Whitlock's portfolio. I altered some of the design because I wanted to use a different sentiment and I drew the letter "A" on the cupcake's heart, added some stickles to the "icing" and some twine on the side. It looks cute! Inside it says: Happy Birthday.
