A couple days ago I saw a picture of this amazing Christmas ornament made out of paper, of course, on one of my Facebook Silhouette users group. The ornament was originally featured in the Stampin' Up Holiday Catalog. To be honest, I am a super fan of SU products but as expensive as they are, I doubt I would get into using their stuff exclusively. I have a craft budget to keep :P
So, I thought it shouldn't be hard to make my own using my Cameo, right? Yup! It was easy peasy. I was originally going to stamp my design on the blank ornaments but I ended up going with print and cut. I didn't like any of the colors from the Studio gallery and I remember an awesome tool the studio has, FILL COLOR, let me show you with a screen shot so you can customize your colors from ANY graphic file you choose.
Whimsical Layered Scalloped Tags
You might be asking, how or why did I use the tag file? Well, it was on my screen from another project lol and instead of making a new scalloped circle for the back of my ornament, I just ungrouped it and took the inner circle to leave is as a plain scalloped circle. I did the same with the layering circle. I took the same measurements from the instructions in the video. The ornament files, I just eyeballed it lol. It ended up being sized at 1.5 x 2.13 for the green shape and 0.735 x 1.435 for the red one. I picked my colors from a LD file using the drop color option. The flower in the middle is by recollections and this is what it looks like on the front and back.
The sentiment on the back was stamped using a stamp two sets from My Thoughts Exactly. I thought they were going to release a new Holiday stamp but they didn't. These stamps are my super favorites for holiday tags, a must have! The sets are called: Jolly Phrases and Jolly Tags
That's it! I am so glad I was able to make my own ornament using the Stampin' Up technique. I am sure the total set for this ornament is a fraction of the SU set, I know they have the svg and patter files for sale for like $7 something dollars. The designs from the store were only 99 cents. Well, 50 cents because I got those files on the Black Friday sale :P
